Homeworld 3’s new features for the game will be a significant upgrade, and considering that it is one of the few strategy games coming out, it is something to look at. Some of these look interesting compared to other space-based RTS games.
These features could make the Oasis cut much more exciting and tactical to play than many other games. In addition, it gave us some more aesthetic details and a better look at other aspects.
What Were The New Game Details Released In The Trailer?
Most of this trailer’s new details were related to gameplay and Homeworld 3’s new features. These were split between the different classes of ships in the game and what you can do with them. Between these, we have a good idea of what you’ll be able to do in the game.
The first thing we see in the trailer is the massive remains of the Kesura Oasis. This thing is massive and was destroyed in battle.
As a result, a salvage operation begins for the space debris. Unfortunately, it is a trap, and now a fight will break out, but since the salvage operations have limited ships, they will be creative.
This trailer looks at the state of conflict in the game world and how the tides of battle can shift. Many factors govern the in-trailer battle, ranging from the number of interceptors to the availability of the gate. These can be further broken down into both the ships and the tactics that can be used in-game.
What Were The Ships In The Trailer?
We looked at a few ship classes in the trailer and what they do in actual combat. If you are wondering what you will have to play with, then don’t worry; we will recap them here. Keep in mind this is early in-game footage, and we could see some of these changes before release.
Interceptors are the space fighters of the game and the first combat vessel we see. It is clear to see in the trailer that they are designed for speed and lightness. They can be used to attack but also scout and defend.
Bombers are similar to fighters in their overall design but are used to carry more powerful ordinances. This feature makes them great for fighting larger ships. These lose some of the versatility and speed the interceptors seem to have.
Assault frigates are not seen much in the trailer and appear later than in other types. They are small ships but are considered heavily armed enough to take on capital ships in the game. I have to imagine this could be a reoccurring issue in the game: the larger the vessel, the less effective these frigates are.
Resourcers are interesting vessels designed to capture enemy craft and turn them over to your side. Most gameplay is about building your ships, so stealing others may be a viable option.
Two other types of ships are in the trailer, but they are not seen as much as the others. The first of these was the mother ship, a large-scale vessel that sole purpose was to release new vessels onto the field. The second of these is the Resource controllers. This craft seems to be the ship that gets building supplies from the field so you can make new ships.
What Were Some Of The New Tactics Seen In The Trailer?
Homeworld 3’s new features included some of the new moves you can use during missions. The way that these appear to integrate into the game makes it look like you will have the ability to use actual tactics in the game.
All three are seen with interceptors, but I imagine you could do this with other vessel types. The first tactic was cover. This tactic is where you could hide ships behind objects to protect them from enemy fire. The second is hiding; this is where you take ships through a location that completely obscures them. Hiding protects them from fire and can allow them to ambush the enemy.
The last and final tactic was called Formation. The Formation is where you can arrange a group of fighters differently to give them different benefits. We didn’t see any specific benefits, but it is nice to know this will be a function.
We will keep an eye on Homeworld 3 to see what other developments may come.
