This guide will help you get up to speed on the locations and the use of Icy Crystal, Helve & Metal in Baldur’s Gate 3. Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the best RPGs with great attention to detail. During your journey, you will encounter many weird and interesting items that seemingly have no use. The Icy trio of the Crystal, Helve & Metal might also seem like that, but they have a secret use. Keep reading to learn more about it.
Key Takeaways
- In the Underdark, you can find all three Icy items, Crystal, Helve, and Metal.
- The Icy Crystal is near the Sussur Tree in possession of a Drow, Filro, who will attack you.
- The Icy Helve is near the Selunite Outpost, possessing a Drow, Dhourn, who will attack you when de-petrified by the Spectator.
- The Icy Metal can be found near the body of a Drow at the Myconid’s treasure grove, accessed after completing the quest Sovereign Spaw which involves killing nearby Duergar slavers.
- These three items can be combined in your inventory to form the Mourning Frost Quarterstaff.
- This is a very rare and powerful magical staff that does a lot of Cold damage.
The Icy Crystal, the Icy Helve, and the Icy Metal are items found while exploring the Underdark in Baldur’s Gate 3. Moreover, they are subtly hidden, easy to overlook while exploring, and easy to ignore, as they alone might seem useless. However, each is only one piece of the puzzle, and you need all three pieces to use them properly.
As mentioned, the Icy Crystal, Helve, and Metal can be found in the Underdark. Unfortunately, they are not in the same spot and are a bit far from each other, but it should still be not that difficult to get them all.
Moreover, it might also be worth it as all three items can be combined to form a scarce magical staff. An interesting thing about the locations of all three items is that they are all found in the possession of a Drow. Here are the locations and methods for obtaining all three Icy items.
Icy Crystal
To get the Ice Crystal, you must make your way to the Sussur Tree in the Underdark. The Sussur Tree is towards the North-West of the Underdark Beach. You will find a Drow named Filro near the tree, who will have the Icy Crystal.
However, he will be insane and, with the help of his pet Hook Horrors, he will attack you and your party members if he sees you. After you have defeated him, get the Icy Crystal from his body.
Icy Helve
Go to the Selunite Outpost in the Underdark to obtain the Icy Helve. It is located towards the South-East of the Beach and East of the Arcane Tower. Now go a little towards the West side of the Selunite Outpost. The Icy Helve will be in the possession of a Drow named Dhourn. He will be one of the three Drows petrified by the Spectator.
However, the Spectator will remove the petrification from them, and the Drows will attack you. Kill them and take the Icy Helve. Another alternative is to kill the Spectator before the spell, and you can talk to Dhourn.
You will still have to fight him and kill him. However, if you are a female Lolth-sworn Drow and manage not to fight, you will quickly need to pickpocket the Icy Helve from him, or else it will be gone forever, as you will never reencounter him.
Icy Metal
To acquire the Icy Metal, you must go to the North-West of the Myconid Colony in the Underdark. This is located towards the East of the Sussur Tree and North-East of the Beach.
However, before making your way there, you must complete the Sovereign Spaw quest, which involves killing the nearby Duergar slavers. After you have completed the quest, you can access Myconid’s treasure grove, where you will find the Icy Metal beside the body of a dead Drow.
Using The Icy Trio
Separately, the three items are pretty useless, but they can be combined to form a very rare and powerful weapon. Just right-click on any of the three items in your inventory, select Combine, and combine the three Icy items. This will result in the formation of the Mourning Frost Quarterstaff. This is a handy and powerful item for any spellcaster. It’s also perfect if you want to do cold damage.
