Mortal Kombat is known to have some of the most creative fighting mechanics. One of the most popular and my favorite things about the franchise is the Fatalities, a brutal way to end a fight. However, there is another finishing move, which is called Friendship. Unfortunately, the Mortal Kombat 1 release does not feature Friendship finisher.
Key Takeaways
- Friendship is a finisher introduced in the second installment of Mortal Kombat.
- The finisher allows players to show their opponent kindness instead of a gory Fatality.
- Mortal Kombat 1 does not have the Friendship finisher currently.
- This finisher can be introduced in Mortal Kombat 1 as part of an expansion pack.
- There are also speculations that other finishers, such as Animalities and Babalities, may be added too.
Moreover, there also have been brutalities and even animalities in some of the games. All of these are very gruesome ways to end a fight. I find it ironic that some of the games in the Mortal Kombat series also feature Friendship, which allows you to act kind.
What Is Friendship?
Friendship is a fan-favorite finishing move in the Mortal Kombat franchise. This move allows players to do an act of kindness towards their opponent. Moreover, there are a few variations of these Friendship endings. As a result, players could blow bubbles, give a present, sing, dance, and even ice skate with their opponent.
This often created some very wholesome moments between the franchise’s famous characters. Therefore, these became instant fan favorites as fans saw the intended comedic effect and often showed mercy to their opponent. Moreover, Friendship was introduced in Mortal Kombat 2, the second game in the franchise.
This was done in response to the outcry by the parents due to the gory nature of the game. However, this was done mainly as a joke by the developers. Then, after including this move in a few of the other games, this move was taken out until the release of Mortal Kombat 11, where this move was brought back.
This still does not mean that these Friendship endings are easy to perform. They often required players to complete a challenge during the fight. Therefore, only then players would be able to trigger the move.
The following prerequisites were required in previous games to use this move:
- In the early games, players were required not to use blocks during the entire fight. After which, similar to Fatalities, players would need to press a series of buttons to start this finisher.
- However, in the recent rendition of Friendship, the player had to defeat opponents using only high or low kicks. Only then could they use Friendship.
Is It Possible To Use Friendship In Mortal Kombat 1?
I could not find the Friendship finisher in the current version of Mortal Kombat 1. Yet, we can expect this finisher to be added soon to this entry. However, I would recommend not getting too excited and taking this with a grain of salt, as there is no official word from the developers if this is the case.
Still, there are a few reasons why the series fans could expect the move to be added to Mortal Kombat 1. Firstly, the previous entry in the series, Mortal Kombat 11, got Friendship later on as part of the update. This was added as a surprise to the fans of the series. We could expect a similar update in the future for this.
Moreover, the game’s developers also announced they would bring back some fan-favorite finishers from the previous games. This means that other finishers, like the Animalities, could be returned as part of future updates. Ed Boon, one of the co-creators, confirmed the revival of other finishers during San Diego Comic-Con.
Therefore, it is possible that the developers would also include Friendship, as they have already done it in their previous game entry. It would be interesting to see different Friendship moves that are all unique. However, now, you won’t be able to perform any act of kindness in Mortal Kombat 1.
The Friendship is a very amusing finishing move in the Mortal Kombat franchise. This was first introduced in the second game of the series and became an instant hit among the fans. Even though this finisher was not used for a while, I hoped it would return. However, it was not until Mortal Kombat 11 that this finisher returned as part of the ‘Aftermath’ expansion pack.
There is always an intricate mechanism to trigger Friendship finisher. It usually involves a fighting requirement, such as no blocks during a fight. Therefore, once the condition is met, players can press a sequence of buttons to use the Friendship at the end of a battle.
