Secondary weapons or handguns are always a priority among players for optimal performance in gameplay. After defeating some powerful bosses, I got my hands on these powerful secondary weapons through merchants. Plus, these handguns can equip Mods, which enhance the secondary weapon with toggleable effects.
Key Takeaways
- The Double Barrel is number 5 due to its excellent damage stat and scalability.
- Cube Gun is number 4 on the list due to its great shield, which can be crucial in sticky situations.
- Enigma Gun has both good weapon mods and stats. However, it does compensate for a few statistics, such as the Stagger modifier and critical damage percentage.
- The MP60-R does not have an in-built mod, but the stats of the secondary weapon are very overpowered. The gun has almost statistics but lacks in ability. It focuses on great RPS as well.

Before we go further, it is worth noting that you can apply Mutators, which, like Mods, has one slot per secondary weapon. Mutators stand apart from Mods in two significant ways.
Firstly, Mutators’ effects differ in terms of their mechanism. Secondly, Mutators do not require mod power like Mods do, so they have no limitations in activation and buffs.
Author’s Trust
Shahzar considers Remnant 2 one of the best games in the Souls-like genre. He thinks the gunplay is the most vital aspect of this game, and having the right secondary weapon is one of the most critical choices. Therefore, he has gone through the campaign and almost all available weapons in the game and lists some of his best picks below.
Double Barrel
The Double Barrel may seem small, but I can safely say that this gun packs a serious punch. The gun specializes in the short-range as it is somewhat of a shotgun and can help in close combat. Two different methods can obtain Double Barrel.
Weapon | Double Barrel |
Base Damage | 110 |
RPS | 2.3 |
Magazines | 2 |
Ideal Range | 7m |
Falloff Range | 20m |
Max Ammo | 24 |
Critical Hit Chance | 5% |
Weak Spot Damage Bonus | 100% |
Stagger Modifier | 10% |
You can get this handgun during the main campaign in Losomn. In Losomn, you can find a safe in Morrow Parish.
Use the code “2971.” Meanwhile, the other way is slightly more complicated than the first one. The second way can be done by just starting as an Alchemist class.
Upgrade Level | Damage | Crafting Cost |
Level 1 | 121 | 4 Irons 200 Scraps |
Level 2 | 132 | 6 Irons 220 Scraps |
Level 3 | 143 | 8 Irons 240 Scraps |
Level 4 | 154 | 10 Irons 260 Scraps |
Level 5 | 165 | 12 Irons 280 Scraps |
Level 6 | 176 | 4 Forged Irons 300 Scraps |
Level 7 | 187 | 6 Forged Irons 320 Scraps |
Level 8 | 198 | 8 Forged Irons 340 Scraps |
Level 9 | 209 | 10 Forged Irons 360 Scraps |
Level 10 | 220 | 12 Forged Irons 380 Scraps |
Level 11 | 231 | 4 Galvanized Irons 400 Scraps |
Level 12 | 242 | 6 Galvanized Irons 420 Scraps |
Level 13 | 253 | 8 Galvanized Irons 440 Scraps |
Level 14 | 264 | 10 Galvanized Irons 460 Scraps |
Level 15 | 275 | 12 Galvanized Irons 480 Scraps |
Level 16 | 286 | 4 Hardened Irons 500 Scraps |
Level 17 | 297 | 6 Hardened Irons 520 Scraps |
Level 18 | 308 | 8 Hardened Irons 540 Scraps |
Level 19 | 319 | 10 Hardened Irons 560 Scraps |
Level 20 | 330 | Simulacrum 580 Scraps |
It is among the top 5 on the list because, as a shotgun, it provides excellent damage at close range. The only reason this is as high is increased usage from the Hunter class, who use long-range weapons.
Cube Gun
Specializing in short to mid-range, Cube Gun has a built-in weapon mod. I consider this handgun to be very well-rounded due to that built-in mod. To get this gun, you will need 1 Conflux Prism, 7 Lumenite Crystals, and 650 Scraps, and you should be at McCabe to craft/trade.
Weapon | Cube gun |
Base Damage | 15 |
RPS | 4 |
Magazines | 5 |
Ideal Range | 18m |
Falloff Range | 50m |
Max Ammo | 105 |
Critical Hit Chance | 5% |
Weak Spot Damage Bonus | 85% |
Stagger Modifier | 0% |
The weapon mod is called Cube Shield, which requires 1000 mod power to activate and creates a shield that can absorb up to 500 damage from hostile projectiles. It lasts for 15 seconds.
Reactivating the Cube Shield causes it to hurt foes as it moves. If the Cube Shield absorbed enemy projectile damage before firing, the damage is increased.
Upgrade Level | Damage | Crafting Cost |
Level 1 | 16.5 | 5 Irons 2 Lumenite Crystals 450 Scraps |
Level 2 | 18 | 10 Irons 2 Lumenite Crystals 525 Scraps |
Level 3 | 19.5 | 15 Irons 2 Lumenite Crystals 600 Scraps |
Level 4 | 21 | 15 Forged Irons 2 Lumenite Crystals 675 Scraps |
Level 5 | 22.5 | 20 Forged Irons 3 Lumenite Crystals 750 Scraps |
Level 6 | 24 | 15 Galvanized Irons 3 Lumenite Crystals 825 Scraps |
Level 7 | 25.5 | 20 Galvanized Irons 3 Lumenite Crystals 900 Scraps |
Level 8 | 27 | 15 Hardened Irons 4 Lumenite Crystals 975 Scraps |
Level 9 | 28.5 | 20 Hardened Irons 4 Lumenite Crystals 1050 Scraps |
Level 10 | 30 | Simulacrum 5 Lumenite Crystals 1250 Scraps |
The Cube Gun ranks 4th among Remnant 2’s best secondary weapons due to its versatile Cube Shield mod, providing defense (absorbing 500 projectile damage) and offense (dealing damage when reactivated). Its accessible crafting and upgrades, reliable damage, and suitability for short to mid-range engagements make it a valuable choice.
Although my build did not perform well with the Cube Gun, I can not deny the many possibilities other builds have with this weapon.
Enigma Handgun
Enigma may very well be the most overpowering secondary weapon in the game. This sub-machine gun is one of my favorite weapons to mow down many enemies in the game.
Enigma, just like Cube Gun, also has a built-in weapon mod. Enigma is somewhat of a mid-range weapon. Having an in-built mod means that the mod can not be replaced.
Weapon | Enigma Handgun |
Base Damage | 22 |
RPS | 4 |
Magazines | 30 |

Falloff Range | 12m |
Max Ammo | 120 |

Using this weapon requires getting started with crafting at McCabe, for which you need 650 Scraps, 7 Lumnite Crystals, and a Cipher Rod. Now, we will discuss the inbuilt mod of the gun, which is “Chaos Driver.”
While requiring 600 mod power to activate chaos, the Drives electrified rods into targets that tether to other rods within 10m. Tethers have a duration of 10 seconds and deal 20 shock damage each second.
Rod-embedded targets take 50 shock damage per second. They absorb 25% more damage for each additional rod in the target.
When attached to another rod, the damage is boosted by 1.5x. Rods within the same target will not connect.
I used these rods to take on some of the most potent enemies. I recommend shooting all rods into the enemy at the very beginning and witnessing how fast you can get rid of these enemies.

Level 10 | 42 | Simulacrum 5 Lumenite Crystals 1125 Scraps |
MP60-R
The MP60-R is one of the first powerful handguns I found during my run. Specializing in close-range combat and having a great fire rate and precision make the MP60-R a great secondary gun.
This gun doesn’t have a built-in mutator or weapon mod.
Weapon | MP60-R |
Base Damage | 9 |
RPS | 14.2 |
Magazines | 42 |
Ideal Range | 17m |

You may unlock it using two approaches. The first one is a little complicated as it requires picking the summoner class, and you will get this gun. The other way of getting the gun is a little complex, as you must solve a puzzle and go to Ward 13.
You must find a chest that requires a 4-digit code to open in Ford’s office. The digit will be 0415, and you will discover the cargo control key inside, from which you can now open the door. Here, you will find the gun on top of the desk.
I unlocked this handgun early in the story, and like most players, I got my hands on this gun through Ford’s Office.

Level 19 | 26.1 | 10 Hardened Irons 560 Scraps |
Level 20 | 27 | 1 Simulacrums 580 Scraps |
MP60-R has very buffed-up statistics on it, while the only reason being 2nd is that it does not have an ability like the one on first. Due to burst damage coupled with great precision, this gun will always be good for mid-ranged fights due to its high RPS.
Sorrow Handgun
What makes this handgun special is its unique mod. Recalling the bolts I shot back to my gun was very satisfying, which grants extra ammo and health.
The range where the gun shines most is between mid-long range, and due to its high accuracy, it deals very precise blows to its enemies. Here are the stats on the gun.
Weapon | Sorrow Handgun |
Base Damage | 45 |
RPS | 2.6 |
Magazines | 5 |
Ideal Range | 16m |
Falloff Range | 52m |
Max Ammo | 45 |
Critical Hit Chance | 10% |
Weak Spot Damage Bonus | 115% |
Stagger Modifier | 5% |
My only reason for putting this weapon on this list is the incredibly potent mod that comes pre-built-in with the gun. The weapon MOD’s name is “Eulogy.”
This weapon mod needs 600 mod power. However, it is in effect when bolts that do 30 damage when drawn from and strike targets when they return. Recalled bolts grant 2% of your maximum HP.
Recalled bolts can also add up to +5 to Sorrow. Any remaining bolts will be replaced with reserves. One thing that should be noted is that the gun does not have built-in mutators.
Upgrade Level | Damage | Requirements |
Level 1 | 49.5 | 5 Irons 2 Lumenite Crystals 450 Scraps |
Level 2 | 54 | 10 Irons 2 Lumenite Crystals 525 Scraps |
Level 3 | 58.5 | 15 Irons 2 Lumenite Crystals 600 Scraps |
Level 4 | 63 | Forged Iron x15 Lumenite Crystal x2 675 Scraps |
Level 5 | 67.5 | 20 Forged Irons 3 Lumenite Crystals 750 Scraps |
Level 6 | 72 | 15 Galvanized Irons 3 Lumenite Crystals 825 Scraps |
Level 7 | 76.5 | 20 Galvanized Irons 3 Lumenite Crystals 900 Scraps |
Level 8 | 81 | 15 Hardened Irons 4 Lumenite Crystals 975 Scraps |
Level 9 | 85.5 | 20 Hardened Irons 4 Lumenite Crystals 1050 Scraps |
Level 10 | 90 | 1 Simulacrums 5 Lumenite Crystals 1125 Scraps |
Due to the multipurpose ability and versatility of the Sorrow Handgun that many other guns lack, we are ranking it as high as possible.
You will be surprised to see that the statistics on the gun are very well-balanced, which further gives great scalability to the weapon. These factors are why the gun is number one on our list.
However, my only problem with this weapon was its painfully slow reloading speed.
My Recommendation For Secondary Weapons
I recommend trying Enigma for mid-game campaign progression and trying other weapons for the endgame.
During my campaign, my focus was on the secondary weapon as much as the primary weapon. Enigma mostly carried my campaign to blast through the enemies and clear different missions. Moreover, these secondary weapons also come with unique and powerful mods that can set the course for the rest of your campaign.
However, I recommend players try different weapons, as the game allows you to carry multiple weapons simultaneously. I had almost all of these secondary weapons equipped at least once. They offer a unique experience to gameplay and allow you to deal with many enemies in different ways.
