Like other side quests like the Blue Medallion, you must break specific Medallions to earn your reward. Here, you need to break the 16 Clockwork Castellans, which are small toys based on Ramon Salazar. However, these tiny dolls are very difficult to find and easy to miss.
Key Takeaways
- It requires you to break 16 dolls hidden throughout the game.
- You will be able to find one Clockwork Castellan doll per chapter of the game.
- At these locations, you can hear the mechanical sound that these Clockwork Castellan windup dolls make. This makes it easier to spot some of these places.
- You can stab or shoot to break these dolls. Some dolls will be in sections players can not access, so you need to hit these dolls.
- Once you have collected all 16 dolls and completed the game, you will be rewarded with a Primal Knife.
Lakeside Broken Shed – Location 1
This is the first doll you will encounter in Chapter 1 of the game. Just head out to this location, west of the Lakeside Settlement, in the Village section of the game. This is a small cottage with broken walls and a collapsing roof.
You will see the Castellan Clockwork Doll on the broken roof of the house. Moreover, as this is your first doll, you will also get an Achievement, Revolt Against the Revolting. During my playthrough, I did not spot this doll instantly. Instead, I could locate it on the roof through its unique sound.
Abandoned Factory – Location 2
I was able to find the second Clockwork Castellan doll located near the Abandoned Factory. Moreover, this is also the section where I first encountered the Merchant in Chapter 2.
Just head North from the Abandoned Factory, and you will see this small shed next to the dirt road. Head inside the shed, and you will see the doll hiding behind a haystack on your right.
Quarry – Location 3
The third Clockwork Castellan Doll can be found in Chapter 3. You can find the doll near the location of the Merchant next to the lake. This is also the section where Merchant first introduced me to the Shooting Range minigame to earn charms.
Therefore, head to this exact location on the bottom floor of this settlement. The doll will be on the roof in a dark corner. However, you will be able to hear about the doll moving.
Forest Alter (Lakeside Settlement) – Location 4
The fourth doll can be found in Chapter 4 of Resident Evil 4 Remake. This doll is inside Forest Alter in the Lakeside Settlement, in the North West of the Lake. However, I had to carry the Insignia Key to access this part of the settlement.
Once you get to this location, you will see the doll on the other side of the fence, part of the map that can not be accessed. Your bullets can reach the doll so that you can break it easily.
Chief’s Manor – Location 5
The Clockwork Castellan doll is also located inside the Chief’s Manor. After rescuing Ashley from the Church, I got this doll in Chapter 5 of the game. Just head to the top floor of the Chief’s Manor and go to the secret attic in the house.
Moreover, even though I spotted this secret section in the Manor early on, I still needed Ashley to access this section of the house. Take the ladder to the attic, and you can hear the doll in the dark. Therefore, point your flashlight and take out this doll as well.
Ahead Of Villa – Location 6
The sixth doll in Resident Evil 4 Remake can be found in Chapter 6 of the game. This location is just North of the Villa in Chapter 6 and is the Hillside Settlement.
Head to the exact location, and you will see a fire burning. Therefore, next to the fire, you will see the doll, shoot to break, and collect six out of 16 dolls.
Treasury Upper Floor (Dungeons) – Location 7
This Clockwork Castellan doll can be found in the Dungeons inside the Castle in Chapter 7 of the game. You need to head to the Treasury and take the ladder to the upper level of the Treasury.
Here, I could spot the doll on the top shelf. Next, you can shot this doll to break it to add another doll to the collection.
Castle Battlements – Location 8
You can find the 8th Clockwork Castellan Doll in Chapter 8 of the game. This area can be accessed during the boss fight with the Armored Giant. However, I think it is best to search for this doll after you have defeated the Armored Giant, just to be safe.
Therefore, carefully navigate the Castle Battlements and head to this location. The doll will be right in the front, sitting on a pile of bags. Just stab with your knife to collect another doll.
Courtyard Maze – Location 9
The 9th Clockwork Castellan Doll can be found in Chapter 9. This doll is hidden in the corner of the Courtyard Maze, where infected dogs are constantly attacking inside the castle. However, solving the Maze Puzzle will take you around this corner of the maze.
Therefore, once you get to this location on the map, you will see the doll hiding behind in a section that players can not access. However, I did shoot this doll to break it and end its annoying sound.
Depths – Location 10
You can find another Clockwork Castellan in Chapter 10. Moreover, you can get to this doll when trying to escape the Depths of the Sewer.
Once you get to the Purple Flame Torch of the Merchant, look opposite, and you will see a sewer grill. However, behind this grill, I came across another one of these dolls hanging upside down. Therefore, just shoot to collect another doll.
Stopover – Location 11
The 11th Castellan Clockwork doll can be found in Chapter 11 of the game. This is the game section where you have Luis Sera by your side. Therefore, head to the exact location on the map.
Once you get to the Stopover, head out from the back exit, and you will see the doll on the house’s roof. The doll would be right at the edge, so you can easily spot it.
Clock Tower – Location 12
I found the doll at the base or the bottom floor during my visit to the Clock Tower. Moreover, this is also the place where the giant statue of Ramon Salazar is being kept. Go to the map’s exact location and break the doll.
Forklift On Island – Location 13
You can find the 13th Castellan Clockwork doll on the Island during Chapter 3. However, this doll is in a bit of a hidden place under large cargo containers.
Head to the exact location on the map, and you will see a green forklift. On the right side of this forklift, under a red container, you will see your Castellen Clockwork Doll.
Amber Storeroom – Location 14
I was relieved to find another Clock Castellan Doll on the Island part of the story. This doll can be found in Chapter 14.
To see this doll, head to the west from Campsite. You will find the Amber Storeroom here, and inside this room, on a shelf, you will find another Clockwork Castellan doll.
Specimen Storage – Location 15
The second last Clockwork Castellan doll can be found in Chapter 15. This doll can be found near the Specimen Storage.
Just head out to the exact location on the map, and you will find a small room here. However, you can find treasure in this small room, and on the wooden beams attached to the ceiling, you will find a Clockwork Castellan Doll.
Underground Passage – Location 16
This was the last and final Clockwork Castellan doll I could collect during my playthrough. Moreover, this is also the game’s final chapter, and the doll can be found in the last few moments.
You need to head to this location in the Underground Bunker. However, I suggest that players keep in mind that they are on a clock and the building they are in will soon collapse, so you must be quick.
The doll would be on wooden boxes next to a Bluish-Green forklift.
Reward For Collecting All The Dolls
Once you break all 16 of the dolls, players are rewarded with a Primal Knife. This is an indestructible knife, meaning it would never break, no matter what you put it through. Therefore, this makes it one of the best weapons.
. Nevertheless, I do not have to tell you that your New Game + starts with the Primal Knife the second time and enables you to breeze through many enemy encounters. The Knife will be available in the Extra Content Shop for a mere sum of 1000 CP.
My Thoughts
Even though it is a lot of work, I enjoyed collecting all of the Clockwork Castellan dolls. This side quest encouraged me to explore and discover every nook and cranny of the maps in search of the doll. I mainly depended on my hearing, as I could hear these dolls before seeing them.
Moreover, from my experience, there is only one doll per chapter of the game, which makes it easier to remember. This makes it so you must complete the game to get to these 16 dolls. However, I can say that the hard work is worth it. The reward for breaking these mechanical dolls unlocks the Primal Knife in the Extra Content Shop.
What makes this knife special is the knife’s ability never to break, which means you never have to spend again repairing your Combat Knife. Therefore, this invincible knife made a difference during my second game run on a higher difficulty. As the game becomes challenging on higher difficulties, the indestructible blade will help you get through the game.
