The announcement comes from the official Game Pass trailer. Unfortunately, the trailer does not give a precise release date for the game on Game Pass. The trailer only announced the game, which more than likely means the release period is somewhere in the next 6 to 8 months. Fortunately, we learned quite a bit about the game from the trailer.

For those who do not know, Dune Spice Wars is set in a Dune universe that focuses on 4X RTS genre. It leads to some exciting play features that fans of both genres should be aware of when considering the game. From what the 4X game is to how this will interact and incorporate knowing more of the Dune universe.

As for the 4X, it is a shortened acronym for explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate. Although it may not be a common strategy game, but it is undoubtedly one of the most popular genres in the industry. If you like a good example, the extremely popular Stellaris fits best under the 4X genre.

Dune was a novel by Frank Herbert published in 1965. The plot of the first few novels follows the Atreides family as they struggle to survive in a corrupt and dangerous galaxy.

The setting is an interesting mix of sci-fi and feudalism as there are things like space travel, but there are also ruling houses. In Dune, combat is also often restricted to hand-to-hand because everyone has a personal shield that deflects all other attacks.

We only got a brief look at the game in the trailer, but it seems to follow the 4X system. Fortunately, Dune lends itself well to this as you appear to play as the house Atreides while attempting to take control of the planet Arrakis, fighting both the forces of Baron Harkonnen and the Emperor.

The basic premise is to set up your first base and then expand from there. The game does seem to incorporate the technology that was present in the books. We did not see much combat, but it looks close-quarters orientated.

That is about it for the official announcement of Dune Spice Wars. What are your thoughts on this announcement of the game release on PC Game Pass? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
