Logitech announced that they’re working with Tencent on a cloud gaming handheld device to support multiple cloud gaming services this month. The new Logitech’s Cloud Gaming Handheld device was planned to drop in late 2022.
However, it appears that we might have a glimpse of what is going to come. A recent leak from Twitter revealed some exciting news about Logitech’s upcoming project. A Twitter user @evleaks shared photos of the device that show the ability to use the Play Store and compatibility for Microsoft Xbox and Nvidia’s GeForce.
Logitech’s Gaming Device: Review
Logitech’s Cloud Gaming Handheld device is comparable to several other gaming handhelds with left and right game controllers, a D-pad, A/B/X/Y buttons, with a special G button. The device will support a lot of cloud stuff, so it shows a home screen with icons for Google Play Store, X Box, GeForce Now, Steam, Chrome, and YouTube.
Additional User Interface elements include a series of five navigational sections on the upper left side. While the battery percentage bar, Bluetooth, time, and Wi-Fi, are located in the right corner.
What seems to be questionable is if we’ll be capable of installing any Google Play Store application, like Netflix. That would undoubtedly offer it an advantage over its competitors. It appears to be nearly the similar size as that of the Switch. It also features a Switch-like user interface for scrolling between games and applications.
The cloud gaming feature will most likely provide the same characteristics as a smartphone, although in a more handy shape and featuring a new interface specialized in cloud gaming.
The presence of Google Play shows that the new gadget runs an Android-based OS. This indicates that it may be powered via Qualcomm’s G3x technology, a Chipset built for Android handheld devices, including an Adreno GPU for high-end mobile gaming.
This technology only appeared in a Razer development kit, unveiled alongside the chipset last December. Logitech’s upcoming handheld device has a futuristic design with impressive UI; however, the specs are yet to be unveiled.
It’s unknown how big that display on the Logitech device is, but it looks the same as a standard Switch. It seems unsure whether the device will be available in colors different from the white shown.
Logitech’s upcoming handheld device will not only compete with other handhelds but also with plenty of controllers designed for smartphones such as 8BitDo Pro 2 and Razer Kishi V2. However, we are curious about the price as its success will depend heavily on the price. Given the limited time frame in which Logitech expects to announce its new device and its copyright claim against the leaked photographs, it is clear that we are looking at what Logitech and Tencent Games will unveil later this year.
