Mario is now enjoying a success streak that runs from games to movies. When franchises hit a run like this, it becomes a question of the next entry. Well, now it seems like the next upcoming Mario game will be Paper Mario One Thousand Year Door remake. This choice gives an interesting possibility of what this could bring for the Mario franchise.

Mario is a timeless character with more successful games than almost any other character in gaming history. Because of this, there is always a buzz about the next installment in his franchise, and now we may know.
The leak itself came from a Famiboards post from user PikminSnekov. In the post, they state that the game itself had been confirmed by three different sources, all of whom worked on it. They were contacted through LinkedIn and did answer the poster’s question about the game. Due to a desire to be fair PikminSnekov decided to leave the date as coming soon since one of the sources was reluctant to confirm a date.
This level of detail is fantastic news, as three separate sources confirming a game can significantly indicate whether something is true. They also sent this report to others to check their work, so I imagine we will start to hear more about it as it goes through the grapevine. It can only get better, though, as more information emerges.
Paper Mario is an exciting choice in and of itself to release right now or at least have it in development. With things like the success of the Mario movie combined with the excellent number of Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope and Mario Strikers, I would have thought they would have gone a different way. Focusing on either more on the Mario sports franchise or even doing a classic Mario game with modern features.
This is not to say Paper Mario is a bad choice. It is one of the best Mario franchises out there. It encourages creative choices while playing and tends to have some of the most creative powers in the franchise. It is also famous for its soundtrack, with even among Mario games stand out. We still don’t know if this game will be a remaster or a full-on remake of the original, but it will surely be a fun installment.
