Another job listing for Senior Technical Animator suggests the video game will feature diverse rigs and assets, including characters, weapons, creatures, vehicles, and props.
In November 2023, KRAFTON, the developer of the renowned battle royale game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), disclosed the ongoing development of their upcoming title, Black Budget, slated for release in the latter half of the current year, as affirmed in the company’s 3Q 2023 Earnings Results.
Although Black Budget serves as a spin-off to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), adopting an “everchanging PvPvE open world,” indications suggest that the company is concurrently engaged in another project. Recent job postings disclose that PUBG Madison is actively developing a new AAA shooter IP akin to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), employing Unreal Engine 5.
Today, we encountered a few freshly posted job listings on the KRAFTON website pertaining to PUBG Madison. Among them is the Senior Level Designer position, with its description stating, “And that’s only the beginning: PUBG Madison is developing an exciting new IP that aims to push the shooter genre forward.”
The job listing requires a “strong knowledge of shooters, both PVP and PVE.” This suggests that the upcoming franchise not only belongs to the shooter genre but also shares PvPvE elements with the company’s previous projects, hinting at resemblances to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG).
Furthermore, this project is designated as AAA, as stated in another qualification requirement, “Experience shipping AAA games.” It’s worth noting that the project may be developed utilising Unreal Engine 5, as indicated by the job listing’s emphasis on “Experience in UE4/5.”
Moreover, one of the responsibilities specified is to “Directly own the level design of Points of Interest within large maps and other areas as assigned.” This implies that the franchise will incorporate expansive maps with numerous locations, similar to the setup seen in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG).
Another position advertised on the KRAFTON website is for the role of Senior Technical Animator – Rigging, Skinning, Animation Pipeline at PUBG Madison, pertaining to the same project. Notably, one of the responsibilities outlined in the job listing is to “author rigs and assets spanning across characters, weapons, creatures, vehicles, and props.”
Though not confirmed, the characteristics of the new franchise bear resemblance to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), hinting that the project might be another battle royale shooter. Nonetheless, none of the job listings mentions battle royale, so this remains speculative.
Unfortunately, this constitutes all the available information regarding this new franchise at present. As PUBG Amsterdam gears up for the launch of Black Budget, further specifics about this upcoming AAA shooter IP from PUBG Madison will be disclosed shortly.
