There have been many big acquisitions in the gaming world, but the one that has PlayStation fans excited is that several classic games could be coming to PS5. Some of these games will include MSG 3 and Castlevania. However, this news may not have been the big piece many had initially thought it would be. It appears that Metal Gear Solid 3 might not be a PlayStation exclusive, or at least not exclusive for a significant amount of time.

Summary

  • The original news that the PlayStation 5 would get exclusive classic games sent PS fans into a frenzy.
  • It appears now that while this deal will make these games exclusive for a time, it may not be as long as we had initially thought.
  • The only two games in this that have been named thus far are MSG3 and Castlevania, which could apply to more.

To say that a game like Metal Gear Solid 3 is a classic is very much an understatement. It would be more accurate to say that it had a long-lasting impact on gaming. It uses ideas and mechanics that are still considered impressive even today. So when fans heard it would be an exclusive for the next-gen PlayStation, they were ecstatic.

This exclusivity appears not to be as strong or long-lasting as many had initially thought. Instead, Jez Corden reports that the game will be planned to be a Multiplatform game from the beginning. He suggests that the DLC for the game could be exclusive, but Xbox has been tossed around as another option for release.

So from the get-go, this will not be anywhere near as exclusive as we thought, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be.

The game will have some exclusive elements, and even if those eventually become Multiplatform, they won’t be for a while at least. This is not the worst thing in the world, but it is sad because PlayStation owners thought they were getting something all for them. This is also not the only game affected in this way.

The other game that Jet revealed being connected to this is Castlevania. Now Jez did say that this was even more confusing for him. Timed exclusive was again brought up with this entry, but he wasn’t sure if any, all, or only some would be on this schedule. According to his sources, this seemed to be up in the air, and confusion was common.

This does make a lot of sense because of the fact Castlevania has a history across multiple consoles. This makes the franchise much more challenging to pin down to one system or system series.

This news also relates to one of the simple principles in the video game industry, make money. Unless a game can sell consoles like God Of War or Halo, making it exclusive isn’t much use. Some games are exclusive because the console is a backer, but this is not the case in most instances. So we will have to see how long these titles remain exclusive when they come out.

All we have on Metal Gear Solid 3 might not be a PlayStation exclusive. What are your thoughts on the latest details of Metal Gear Solid 3? Share with us in the comments section below.
